This weekend I went to see Snow White and the Huntsman. It was magical, beautiful, and dark - yet it had an uplifting overtone that made me feel like I should be more agressive and kinder all at the same time. The actors are all breathtakingly beautiful - Charlize Theron as the evil Queen, Kristen Stewart as Snow White, and Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman. Oh, the Huntsman.
I was very taken with the costumes in the film and in particular Charlize Theron's dramatic Evil Queen get-up.
After a little poking around, I learned that Oscar award-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood worked on this film. She pulled jewelry that looked somewhat medieval for the leading ladies and used jewelry designer, Cathy Waterman. Let's take a closer look, shall we?
Lace Caged Cross
"Much of my work embodies both the dark and the light of one's nature," says Waterman. Charlize Theron's evil queen Ravenna shows her lighter side during the wedding scene when she wears a 22K gold, diamond and pearl necklace to accent her gown. "To me the piece represents who Ravenna is at that moment," explains Waterman. "There is a sweetness that belies what is underneath."
Valiant Shield Ring
"When Kristen becomes queen, she wears this ring specially made by Cathy for her," says Atwood. "The simplicity of the cross and shield design was perfect for her because she is queen of the people."
"Charlize wanted a crown on throughout the movie," says Atwood. "We called this delicate piece from Cathy, her youthful beauty crown." This was inspired by Ancient Greek victory wreaths and set in 22K gold and diamonds. I personally loved her tougher, spiked version (also pictured above).
Falling Leaves Necklace and Creeping Vine Earrings
"When you make a film you think about things like texture and richness," says Atwood. "I loved the way the fabric of Charlize's gown worked with Cathy's amethyst necklace in the Mirror, Mirror scenes." A unique piece from Waterman's Falling Leaves collection, the pendant has purple sapphire centerstone, amethysts, and diamonds and took over 100 hours to create.
Shield and Dagger EarringsThe Shield and Dagger earrings feature two black stones—spinel and tourmaline—set in gold and diamonds. "I am very into craftsmanship," says Atwood. "To find Cathy's jewelry that captures the quality and workmanship of antique but in a modern way was just so perfect for the film."

The evil Queen also had these genius sharp rings that totally added to the wickedness of her character.
